Sensitive Skin

All healthy skins are sensitive, but this term is used within the Aesthetic Industry to describe a condition where the skin is hypersensitive i.e. it ‘over’ reacts to even the mildest stimulus.

The skin flushes very easily, causing redness which may appear in patches or as a clearly defined network of dilated capillaries. Skin that has been neglected over a number of years may have permanently dilated capillaries which are more pronounced when the blood supply is stimulated.

Dry skin types are most likely to be sensitive. This is due to the reason that a dry skin lacks the natural protection normally given by sebum. Other skin types may at times be sensitive, particularly if the stimulus is an ingredient of a cosmetic or skin-care preparation.

During a Beau Visage Skin Health Consultation a practitioner can analyse your blood supply to detect problems such as dilated capillaries. A treatment plan can then be devised for a client. Lasers and IPL can be used to remove thread veins on the face, body and legs. Laser treatments will remove fine and large thread veins quickly and effectively. A recommended course of treatments is required in order to leave the client will a smooth and blemish-free skin and achieve the required result.

It is extremely important if you have sensitive skin to protect your skin from exposure to UVA rays. An SPF30 should be worn all year round. Products containing the antioxidants Vitamins A, C & E will help protect the skin against environmental assaults, such as pollution, cold weather and low humidity which can cause the skin to become sensitized.

Skin Care preparations containing Chamomile and honey will help to calm the skin and reduce irritation. A protective serum will help act as a barrier against environmental conditions.

Drinking one-two litres of water a day, will help to keep the skin hydrated, healthy and young looking. A healthy diet rich in antioxidants such as vitamin A. C, E and beta carotenes will help keep the skin looking youthful.

A sensitive skin will benefit from a Beau Visage Skin Health Consultation as this produces an accurate analysis of the true health of your skin. This will enable you to understand why your skin appears the way it does and allows your practitioner to compare and monitor your progress over time, giving you the confidence that your treatments and homecare regime are working for you and your skin. Your treatment programme will be designed specifically for your skin care concerns, based on your Beau Visage consultation.
